So McCain came out with a new ad commercial today. I get the impression that he’s trying to ride being a former POW to amp up his reputation. Don’t get me wrong, that’s some crazy stuff, but does this really qualify someone to be a president of the most powerful nation in the world?
I went to a “retire rich, retire young” seminar with my dad a couple years ago. I don’t remember the name of the hotel, but I remember walking down this pathway towards the ballrooms (used for the seminar) and there was a guy with a foot long beard playing a make shift flute/recorder type instrument. He was wearing a shirt with a long acronym on it so I asked him what it meant. He said it stood for (something along the lines of) the #th Company of Helicopter Medics from Vietnam. Now, I don’t judge. I’ll be anyone’s friend if they are easy to get a long with. However, this guy was clearly not cut to be a president. My point being that fighting in a war, or being a PoW doesn’t make you cut for president. From my personal experience, it can often leave you acting pretty weird. I’ve noticed a pattern of strange activity from MOST (key word) of the vets that I have met personally; but I’ve only met a handful.
I feel like there’s a lot more to someone than 5 years of being a POW. It will be funny to see how Iraq Veterans play into future elections.
***Okay so a simple search led me straight to Vietnam Veterans Against John McCain. Is he aware that anyone who searches with the criteria of “Vietnam Vet” “John McCaine” is going to see this link on google? Kind of funny, considering I think a lot of people will because of his new ad. I’m hoping this doesn’t turn into another John Kerry “swiftboat” exageration. Though, if it does, we are left with a better alternative than Bush. hehe.
